BERM PROJECT

The BERM is an ongoing project that plans to dry us 1355 acres of land immediately north of the Port of Entry and the Village of Columbus. With heavy rains, the water flowing off the Tres Hermanos mountains moves to the south, flooding the federal government port of entry, Columbus, and Palomas.

  • Phase 1 will begin this diversion project to create a berm containing the water and eliminate pooling.
  • Phase 2 will create a bridge over Highway 11 so the water will divert underneath it to the Eastside.
  • Phase 3 will take the diverted water to a dry lake in the Palomas area and alleviate flooding. This will allow for new building activity industrial park just north of the border.
